Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't steroid/HGH use illegal unless used for medical necessity? I mean, granted nowadays you could get a prescription for just about anything but if it becomes obvious you are a drug seeker using prescription drugs outside their intended use I was under the impression it was illegal.
Maybe I'm wrong. I mean with all the hoopla about steroid use in Major League baseball you would think there would be some arrests. Of course if it's not illegal then there wouldn't be arrests. Since there are no arrests and players are willing admitting steroid/HGH use then it must not be illegal.
So then it leads to the question, if it's not illegal then what is all the investigations about? What's with the asterisk questions in relation to hall of fame entries? It appears it's not illegal. Like I said, if it were then why are none of these players who are admitting to drug use going to jail?
I think it is illegal use of drugs. That's the problem. The use of these enhancements is illegal. Essentially all these players are druggies and not athletes.
No one seems to care. No one except politicians who are bored with yelling about Iraq or being yelled at about Iraq. Isn't that sort of apathy kinda dangerous?
The way I see it, if some average Joe/Jane decided to do illegal drugs just to take the edge off the day and allow them some 'down' time. You know, so they can really unwind and then be able to totally excel at their job the next day. Why should they go to jail if caught or fired if they freely admit to that drug use?
Bonds isn't going to jail and he has gotten into the Baseball Hall of Fame for his illegal drug use. Other players command multi-million dollar salaries for their drug use. How can the courts legitimately arrest and put in jail Joe/Jane for using drugs when the same courts are ignoring the use by professional sports players?
A truly blatant double standard there I would say. All I know is if there was a pill, illegal or not, that I could take that would get me multi-million dollar contracts and into halls of fame, I'd take it. Who wouldn't?
A brief note; I could care less about drug use in baseball or the apathy over it. I find it ingratiating that the public puts so much interest in people who, although physically talented (with some pharmaceutical assistance), will never have much of, if any at all, impact on society. I was just curious as to why we seem to have so many double standards in society in relation to famous/rich people compared to the average Joe/Jane.
